The Search for the Best Red Velvet Cupcake in Manhattan is ON!

It’s no secret that I’m kind of obsessed with anything red velvet, especially cupcakes. The last few times I’ve been to NYC, I’ve sought out two of the most well-known cupcake hangouts: Magnolia and Crumbs. And both times, their red velvets have been only sub-par. Crumbs was bigger and you got more bang for your buck at $3.75 a cupcake versus at Magnolia where they are about half the size and set you back $3.00. Though, I must admit, Magnolia’s was tastier.

But there was one significant factor (IMO) that both red velvets lacked…creme cheese frosting. Now, in my experience with red velvet anything, creme cheese frosting is pretty standard.

And neither of these places had it, contrary to what their websites may say. Though, I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that I hope they just ran out of creme cheese frosting on the particular days I was there.

I will gladly entertain suggestions as to where the most scrumptious of red velvet cupcakes is hiding. The search for the best red velvet cupcake in Manhattan is ON! Off to a bit of a crumby start…

Score: 0-2.
